Summer Job Connection Application Extension & Increase

Summer Job Connection registration is extended to April 5, 2021

~More than 1,500 youth applied to be part of the program so far~

TAMPA, FL – The Summer Job Connection (SJC) 2021 program is extending the deadline for Hillsborough County Youth to register for a summer job. The new deadline for youth, 16 to 24-years of age is Monday, April 5, 2021.

“We recently had the Hillsborough School District Board vote to officially participate in the program,” said CSTB CEO John Flanagan. “This will allow youth who just heard about the program to sign up for this wonderful opportunity.”

This year, the program is expanding its opportunities, hoping to serve 1,200 young adults through an 8-week part-time paid work experience, virtual career exploration, and a new youth leadership academy for young adults that meet specific eligibility requirements. The program will run from June 14, 2021, to August 6, 2021.

There have been more than 1,500 applications to the program since the program opened on January 4, 2021. Applicants are required to complete a Summer Job Connection 2021 online application at www.CareerSourceTB.com/summer-job-connection or at www.TampaSummerJobs.com.

Youth can choose one of the following tracks for the SJC 2021 program:

• Eight-week Paid Internship earning $12.00 per hour for 30 hours per week

• Four-week Online Career Exploration- $200 weekly Incentive

• Six-week Youth Leadership Academy called “Young Leaders of Tomorrow”- $200 weekly Incentive

“We have modified our Summer Job Connection program paid-work-experience program to now include eight-weeks, increased the rate of pay to $12.00 per hour, and increased hours per week to 30,” said Jennifer Wilson, CSTB’s Youth Director. “These changes will provide an enriched experience for our young adults during their summer internship while making an impact at the businesses they are working at this summer!”

Youth will also be expected to attend a mandatory in-person Youth Summit in June 2021. Since launching in 2019, the SJC program has provided more than 1,000 low-income and disadvantaged youth with summer work experience and access to career exploration activities, work readiness skills, and financial literacy training.

The SJC program is still accepting applications from Businesses in Hillsborough County that would like to mentor youth and participate in the program this summer. Employers in the program are encouraged to apply now but can apply after the youth application deadline.
