TAMPA, FL – Nearly two years after Hurricane Maria, CareerSource Tampa Bay (CSTB) is still looking to help evacuees after the storm. Hurricane Maria devastated areas of the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico after a direct hit to the islands in September 2017.

CareerSource Tampa Bay is assisting individuals who’ve been affected by Hurricane Maria. CSTB provides free workshops and job search assistance, but people may also qualify for grants to acquire professional studies, certifications, and provide English classes. In order to qualify for the program participants must be relocated from Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands as a consequence of Hurricane Maria since September 17, 2017, a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident status, and meet eligibility criteria.

“We are looking for those who relocated after Hurricane Maria and provide assistance with their job search and additional trainings,” said Cynthia Diaz who is overseeing CareerSource Tampa Bay’s program to provide assistance in the Tampa Bay area. “Believe it or not, after this devastating hurricane in 2017 we are still reaching out to people who went through this storm and are trying to get back on their feet.”

The program can provide basic career services such as resume and cover letter writing, recruitment events, networking opportunities, short term training programs, special access to computers, skills training and Employ Florida assistance.
